When you are diabetic, people might scare you to not eat fruits as they may spike up sugar

levels and make it worse. But fruits are definitely not your enemy when you choose the right one. Fruits contain a form of natural sugar, carbohydrates i.e,. Fructose which can definitely cause huge fluctuations in your glucose levels.


As a nutritionist, I always feel that fruits are some good source of vitamins, minerals, antioxidants and photochemical. Choosing them wisely can do wonders for you.


What fruits should you choose?

1. Apple

2. Jamun (malabar or java plum)

3. Guava

4. Berries

5. Pear

6. Kiwi

7. Papaya

8. Watermelon

How to choose your fruit?

  • choose whole fruits instead of their counterparts like juices, jams, spreads, jelly etc

  • Fruits should be eaten raw, as they have lower GI

  • Combine it with a handful of nuts or seeds to balance on the spikes

  • Choose a unripe fruit

  • Opt for a single fruit instead of a fruit bowl or salad.

  • Portion size is more important, limit it to not more than 70-100g per day.
